Year after year, Obama has lifted the “status, significance and public consciousness” of community colleges. Since 2008, the maximum Pell grant award has risen nearly $1,000. In 2010, Obama secured $2 billion to authorize and fund the Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College and Career Training Grant Program. This past January, the president proposed America’s College Promise – a promise to make two years of community college tuition free. While both sides of the political table agree that America’s College Promise is “dead upon arrival,” Obama has not let up on it and there’s no indication he will.
