Before joining ApprenNet as a Web developer, I worked as an instructional designer at a local university, eager to help instructors make great technology-enhanced learning experiences. But as I started designing courses, I quickly became frustrated by not being able to make the learning tools work in a way that was productive for the instructors and learners. It was difficult to cobble together tools and resources from various platforms to bring authentic learning experiences online. Including video and other types of media was always a hassle since none of the platforms guided instructors on how all the pieces should fit together. I knew there had to be a better way, so I started spending a lot of my time figuring out how these web technologies worked and how we could improve them, learning about code and web application design in the process.
