What can current college students do to ensure long-term job security once they graduate? The Atlantic’s Joe Pinkser asked a panel of seven economists for advice. While each economist had varied responses, most generally agreed that embracing soft skills and lifelong learning are key in future-proofing careers. Further, several asserted that technology will continue to eliminate some jobs for humans, which places greater importance on having strong interpersonal skills and creativity. Saadia Zahidi, head of education, gender and employment initiatives at the World Economic Forum, put it well: “No matter what you choose to study today, expect to have to keep learning throughout the course of your career.”
