Here's a striking statistic for you: Nearly half of all first-year teachers leave the teaching industry within their first 5 years. Not only is this costing schools across the U.S. nearly $2.2 billion each year, but it's also leading to a sharp decline in enrollment at teacher training programs. Which is not good, given that in the next 10 years, 1.6 million new teachers will be needed to take the place of teachers who are retiring.
