Exxon Mobile pledged $1M to a consortium of nine community colleges that seek to train students for high-skill, high-demand jobs in the petrochemical industry. There is an incredible hunger for welders in the Gulf Coast. According to the Patricia Cohen of the NYT, this demand has caused an "unusually close partnership between the energy industry and local community colleges to train people for disappearing skills."
