Creating a culture of continuous learning within an organization is the most sustainable and effective way to build employee confidence and competence from the inside out. How can managers support their employees’ learning goals while continuing to generate results and meet business goals? A recent Harvard Business Review article suggests that managers should work closely with their employees to make “learning & development a central pillar of the workday” by clearly determining metrics and goals for learning and ensuring that both parties are responsible for developing and executing the employee’s learning plan. During the recruiting and hiring process, managers should also look for candidates who demonstrate potential and capacity to learn instead of looking for existing skillsets, which expands opportunities for employees to grow and move up within the organization. When learning is defined, supported, and continuous, everyone benefits.
