Practice, practice, practice. It has been said that it takes 10,000 hours of practice to master a skill. Does that mean practicing the same thing over and over? According to Adam Grant in his recent New York Times article, mastering a skill involves adapting your practice. In other words, not simply repeating the same skill in the same way each time. Grant notes that practicing within established rules without identifying necessary adjustments could hinder effective improvement and risk becoming entrenched in one manner of practice.
