A new super team-up is in town. Nine colleges in Pierce County, Washington have banded together to form the Pierce County Higher Education Team, with the goal of promoting “a college-going culture among local K-12 students.” Rather than competing among themselves for students, the team focuses on boosting the county’s high school and college graduation rates by presenting available options for postsecondary education. They aim to help underrepresented students apply for a statewide scholarship and file for FAFSA. Additionally, the team is exploring ways to improve on sharing data between college and school districts to better prepare students for college and track student progress from high school to college. Next on their to-do list? Work with Pierce County employers to help with job placement and boost the local economy.
