They Want It That Way

Graduation season has come, and with it, the newest members of the workforce – or so they hope. Although 87 percent of graduates believe they are well-equipped to enter the working world, only 50 percent of hiring managers feel the same way. PayScale and Future Workplace released a joint report detailing which skills hiring managers consider to be most lacking among graduates. In first place for soft skills? Critical thinking skills, followed closely by attention to detail and communication. For hard skills, writing proficiency is at the top of the list, along with public speaking and data analysis. The report further examines skills that net higher salaries, most common skills by region, and those that may boost chances of promotion.
