In 2010, two researchers set up an experiment. They asked two groups of famers to set up a bank account and amass a certain amount of money by a specific deadline, presenting extra money as an incentive. Group one was given the challenge in June with a December deadline. Group two was given the challenge in July with a January deadline. Even though both groups had a six month deadline, the farmers in group one set up an account immediately. Why? Farmers in the first group felt a sense of urgency because the deadline was in the same year they were presented the challenge.
